3:46 am - Thrill me
|
Well....this is absolutely thrilling.
I found this live journal on the internet and thought i would update.
now i am older than i was the last time i posted. figures.
i am actually graduating from law school relatively soon...though i have no idea how. there is a lot of work to be done before graduation and i hope i do not run into any problems.

right.
back at my parents house in annapolis. writing this on the new dell computer in the larger of the two 'guest' rooms my parents now have.
just been doing some studying: antitrust.
oh man. i have actually made some pretty good headway on the material.
tommorrow is my last day on antitrust and then i switch subjects to accountant and auditor liability to third parties.
jeez.
that one i am a little nervous about because i want to have part of an essary written by monday...maybe 6 pages. depends on how things go.
anyways, vacation activities have been as follows:\
1. chinatown bus new york to washington: somebody drops a huge dump in the john midway through the trip.
2. medeival times at arundel mills shopping center: amazing. horses. yay. happy birthday brinton!
3. brit pop at the ottobar: the thing i like about art school girls is i keep getting older, but they stay the same age.
4. afterparty.
5. family bonding! bowling: my 11 year old sister nearly beats my 19 year old brother. however, she has the bumpers on.
6. in the studio with paul: finishing the plans plans master. sitting there playing tony hawk 3 while it bouncing to disk in realtime. yonks.
7. mo county with joe: california tortilla, busted movie selections at rockville, dunkin donuts, tower records, home. yay.
8. dentist appt: no cavities. left headlights on in the beamer during appt. battery dead...tried to get this guy to give me a jump but he couldn't figure out the german engineering. bro from the mercedes/bmw dealership helped me out. thumbs up for that.
9. battery central: bought a new car battery. turned out pops had been planning to buy a new one anyways...the headlights were only on for an hour.
back to the house. dinner. study time.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

6:34 pm - OMG
|
okay...
so it's been forever since i've touched this thing. i don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but it happened.
so audience: apologies.
fuck. so iv'e been working on this brief for the marden moot court competition spring open on and off for the past two days...plug away for awhile, stare off into space, watch tv, work on it some more, talk on im, work somemore...i have 4 good pages of the argument....which means the substance is practically done (the page max is 12 pages, but there are introduction parts, factual summaries, etc. that will take up more space...)
so now, i am just trying to keep at it. i will have most of tommorrow to work on it as well. this is good.
i want to get it done so i have time to check it.
and when it's done i do want to have to deal with regrets about rushing it.

7:08 pm - long overdue update (holla back...)
|
oh god. oh god.
i am in a tommy hilfiger bathroom drinking black tea and just got done reviewing the bco and listening to sonic youth. confluence of the 20th century...YES?
i am pretty fucking psyched because i did absolutely nothing "cool" this weekend and loved it. but the best part is that cool is sort of ironic and sarcastic these days...so for all of you that went to parties/shows/hung out with bands/celebrities/supermodels etc., read and weep...this is beat you to the punch.
my body kicked into the high state of alert that occurs immediately after a long night of drinkining. the human body, deprived of precious nutrients, hydration, and minerals necessary for normal function, kicks into hunter gatherer mode earlier than usual. it doesn't matter how little sleep I get. military efficiency and I am up at noon, wrapped in a coat, towel, and blanket on a mattress and boxspring. this doesn't really boad well for the rest fo the day however: i went to bed at 6:30am. i look across the room at bryce my compatrior, curled up in a semi-foetal possession on the couch...more like a premature baby actually. He looks peaceful. I wonder about his vitals.
I walked across the living room and pick up Rich Lee's electric guitar. It's one of those guitar's for 12 year olds that want a guitar, made in Japan, Korea, Tawain...probably sounds like shit plugged in, but all I wanted was to plink out a couple of chords before the guys wake up.
Unfortunately for me, the guitar is desparately out of tune. I twist the tuning pegs, hit harmonics, and cock my ear lobes towards the neck of the guitar in a vain attempt to decipher the quaint tink of the unamplified strings into notes. E, A, D, G, B, E. Okay. C chord, A minor chord, C Chord, A minor, Okay. Sounds pretty good. F chord. Right. Back to A minor, then C. Rock is born.
I put the guitar down and head to Rich's bedroom. He is curled up on the floor next to the futon. He hears me come in and says "I can't sleep on it when it's like this," gesturing to the futon which is folded into a sofa. This pretty much sums up his physical disposition.
I walked back into the living room and he follows me out. I go for the guitar and sit down on the mattress and boxspring. Rich passes me and heads to the kitchen.
C Chord, A minor. C Chord, A minor. Melody anyone?
Rich walks in front of me and nonchalantly says "Oh man, I shouldn't have drank that orange juice. I'm going to puke."
I don't move. Rich walks to the bathroom and closes the door.
C Chord, A minor. Gag reflex. Vomit spashing into the porcelain bowl. Sounds pretty good.
Bryce is sturring.

2:40 am - home sweet home
|
righto....
no time for reflection kind reader.
last night i went to confusion dance night with friend and comrade joe mitra. in attendance were the entire chase, blackie night (knight?) a.k.a. david goldberg, carrrrrla from jew*chink, lili schulder (*blush*), catinca, nichola rivetti, hugh and co. from the black eyes, caroline (who was djing) and other special people. so basically, it was a "celebrity" night out at the black cat.
and things were fun: i danced, drank jim bean, and conversed.
unfortunately, things got a little hairy towards the end of the evening.
first, we had to leave the club early because joe decided it would be a good idea to bring these two girls with a 1:30 curfew. ugh. not my thing.
then, i start heading home: when I get to the conjunction (yes!) of 198 and 95, i ran over a wolverine, three saw blades, and a porcupine and completely obliterated my right rear tire. in too sorry a state to change the tire on a car that i didn't know anything about (a loaner from my parents), i called joe back and got him to pick me up. I left the car at a gas station.
spent the night at the mitras. watched super mario bros. the movie in the morning to a breakfast of egg mcmuffin and doughnuts...finally, changed the tire, went to a small comic book convention, and made it home.

4:37 pm - curious
|
i just got back from walking around soho.
i had to get out of my apartment because i was getting increasingly frustrated with the mess and there is also the fact that nothing i listen to actually sounds good to me right now....
i was listening to the flaming lips, soft bulletin as I walked...it sounded fine. but once i step back into the apartment, it's all back to poo.
another source of frustration is the fact this swiss guy with thick glasses, long hair, and a bill cosby style sweater was printing out every single powerpoint presentation from his mergers and acquisitions and corporations class. not only did he completely tie up the printer, but also used up all the toner....and then had the nerve to tell me he "accidentally" printed out two copies of everything.
luckily, the few things i wanted to print out made it in between powerpoint slides befores the toner gave up.

7:46 pm - fuck elephant
|
oh man...the culture war forever in my mind.
i just saw elephant and it's the kind of movie that makes you have to ask yourself "why do i see movies?" is it for artistic enjoyment, education, aesthetics...what?
and it's all true. but suffering through this extremely well-shot (pun intended) pretentious nightmare of sterility it's a wonder that i didn't shoot up the theatre myself.
but maybe that's the whole idea. is the film supposed to make you feel so detached that you could kill all those people? ah the dilemma.
well. matrix revolutions was more fun.

10:58 pm - feel this.
|
just woke up from a nap.
today i went to my part-time job and guess what? i am being "let go" because i can't stay for the summer.
nothing is finalized yet, but basically...the partner asked me what i was doing next summer and i told him that i had already made an employment commitment to another firm. he says "that's going to be a problem."
so the dilemma. this is what the firm needs. not about me. not about my capability. and remember this is a world where they want a protege. that protege is not me.
this shit is inconsequential except for the fact that it is fucking AMAZING. first time for everything. this is like being dumped by a girl you are dating because you won't get married.
anyways, i am watching some program on the buidling of highways through new york's working class neighborhoods. this is such a peculiarly american situation. europeans would just build better trains. idiots.
hah.

funniest things.
i just talked on the phone with ethan about life planning...what a nightmare.
i get off the phone and ask my roomate josh "why should i be studying?"
he says: "You know that a lot of the people that go here came from a really privileged background. You should study to show them that you can do better than them."
Genius.
Just plain competition.
also: today i when to a fashion show at FIT.
equally amazing.

1:55 pm - congratulations/what have we wrought?
|
so i just got back from the apartment buidling basement. it was a trip for a dr. pepper. one fellow was playing the simpson's pinball game down there. i sipped my soda, waiting for the elevator.
on the way up, a classmate came in on the second floor. he seemed cheerful, bubbling with energy. i said "how are you?" He said "I just found out about job offer. So I am feeling pretty good."
i walked back to my room and wrote this, thinking to myself that others are still looking.
what have we wrought?

last night, one of rich lee's girlfriend's friends was having a birthday party get together at a bar, so i stopped there...then went to don hill's and got in on the guest list courtesy of becca. lovely.
woke up hungover...went to dojos for lunch: chicken salad and coffee.
watched reno911!. genius.

3:49 pm - OH MY GOD!
|
okay okay... so things going on include. bam i am at work and there is absolutely nothing to do because the two attorneys i usually work for are out of the office and the other one (who i just found out was a child actress) is out for the afternoon doing errands or something with the receptionist.
so basically, i am now the recepionist/switchboard operator, meaning that i am staring at BCO hoping for more interesting threads to come up and waiting for replies to my own posts...reading pitchforkmedia...and staring off into space.
fantastic.
anyways, i guess i can write some emails to people as well.
that'll be good to pass the time.
it's just that i am a little hungry and a little hung over.
last night was nyu's fall ball. it's this big party in the law school building that sort of half costume party and half just get really drunk, plus there are some professors and alumni as well...so it's all around pretty funny. the a capella group ('substantial performance') performed some songs and if you didn't know i am in the group: BASS. here's the play list:
1. Billy Joel - For the Longest Time 2. ? - So Happy Together 3. ? - Africa 4. Billy Joel - And so it goes 5. Madonna - Like a Prayer
What else? In case you didn't know, I now have a job for next summer at a NY city law office. I am quite excited about the whole thing and am going out to dinner with some of the associates next week.
this means now my main priority is to teach myself all the material i have been skipping the last two months. christ. so this means a lot of reading.
but things get more complicated. this weekend tara is visiting. next weekend clare is visiting. so i am going to have to wedge the studying in somewhere.
i dunno.
i am also excited because i think i have finally made a commitment to two songs that i can demo with my own recording stuff...there are both new and i think they will sound good with just vocals and guitar.
